Boys & Girls Club (Senior Project)

The goal was to add a new location of a Boys and Girls Club to the south side of Chicago. Located in the heart of Hyde Park surrounded by school districts. The design goals was to design a space that would mimic the Boys and Girls Clubs mission, which is influencing the growth of the kids. There are various design features throughout the space that expresses the concept of growth, starting from the exterior of the building and progresses into the interior.

Building Exterior

Restored exterior with a added monumental stair, which raises the front entrance 4 feet. With the addition of a third level.

First Floor Plans

The gradient effect with the use of carpet tiles was one of the design features done in the space to represent the concept of growth and progression.

Second Floor Plans

The second floor is dedicated to all the programs. With a Arts & Crafts Room, Fitness Room and an open Learning Studio.

Third Floor Plans

The third floor is dedicated to administration , but the central zone is open to below to keep every floor connected. There is an added skylight that is above the central zone to bring natural light throughout the central space.

Key Conceptual Features

My added stair that acts as seating and a circulation stair to get to the second floor. The custom steel panel system that runs from the first floor to the third, acts as a divider wall on the first and second floor and turns into railing on the third floor. I have a added detail of how the panel system works superimposed on the side.
